Men's Gold Chains

Cheap gold chains go brown within a month because what's under the gold is brass. Ours are 316L stainless steel under an 18k gold plate, so there's nothing underneath to push through.

These are our plain chains in gold: Cuban, Figaro, box and more, cut and finished by us. Being straight about it, plate is a surface, and it eventually wears where a chain rubs most, usually the clasp, over years rather than weeks. It's the honest version of a gold chain. If you want one you never think about, the silver ones are the harder-wearing choice.

They're sold by length from 35cm to 90cm; measure a chain you already wear or where you want it to sit. 6mm is the most popular width. Gold reads warmer against dark clothes and skin than silver does, which is why a lot of men wear it as their only chain.

Is it real gold?

It's an 18k gold plate over 316L stainless steel. It isn't solid gold, and we won't pretend it is. The steel underneath is what stops it going brown the way gold-coloured brass does.

How long will the gold last?

Years rather than weeks, with daily wear. Plate is a surface, so it wears first where the chain rubs most, usually the clasp and the back of the neck. If you'd rather never think about it, silver steel is the harder-wearing choice.

Cuban, Figaro or Byzantine?

Cuban is the flat, interlocking link most people picture when they think of a chain. Figaro has a rhythm, three short links and one long, so it looks finished on its own. Byzantine is four links woven together; it's heavy for its width and it's the one people ask about. Box and belcher are the plainer options.

Which width should I get?

6mm is our most popular width. Under 4mm sits under a shirt and pairs with a pendant. 8mm and up is meant to be seen, and 10mm and 12mm are heavy pieces you'll feel. If you already wear a chain, measure its width and go the same or one step up.

What length chain should I get?

Measure a chain you already wear, end to end with the clasp, or wrap a tape where you want it to sit. Our necklaces are sold in centimetres from 35cm to 90cm. Shorter sits at the base of the neck, longer sits on the chest, and where you want it is your call. You can add the optional 4 inch extender on the product if you'd like some room either way.
