Gold Gothic Earrings
Gold plated gothic earrings: hoops, huggies and studs in 18k gold plated 316L stainless steel, sold as pairs. From a 12mm huggie that hugs the lobe to a 55mm hoop, plain or with a spike or a cross hanging from it.
Steel underneath is the reason to buy earrings here. Anything through the ear sits against skin all day, and plated alloy is what causes the itch; 316L stainless steel is hypoallergenic for most wearers. The gold on top is a plate, and on an earring it eventually wears at the post and the clasp, over years rather than weeks. If you want earrings you never think about, our silver ones are the harder-wearing choice; if you want gold, this is the honest version of it. Hinged hoops click shut, huggies snap, studs have butterfly backs. 20mm is the most popular size and sits just off the lobe.
Which gold earring should I start with?
A pair of 15mm plain gold huggies. They sit tight to the lobe, can be slept in, and put one point of gold beside the face, which is enough against black clothes and dark hair. After that, 20mm hoops for a hoop that shows, the crescent moon or man-in-the-moon hoops for the celestial look, the spiked huggies for the punk one, and the crescent stud for the upper ear.
Which hoop size do I need?
The diameter on each product page is the outside measurement. 12mm and 15mm hug the lobe and are the sizes for second and third piercings. 20mm to 22mm show a little air under the lobe and are the everyday hoop. 30mm and above are worn as the look. The wire, the thickness of the hoop itself, runs 2mm to 5mm; 3mm is standard, and thicker wire wants a piercing with a little give.
Will the gold wear off?
Not with normal wear. The plate is 18k gold over 316L stainless steel rather than over brass, so there is nothing corroding under it to push it off. Hairspray and perfume are what dull a gold plate over years; spray, then put the earrings in.
Will they turn my ears green?
No. The green mark from cheap gold earrings is copper from a brass post. These posts are steel under the gold.
Can I wear them in the shower?
Yes. Rinse the hinge under the tap if product gets into it and dry it.
Are they hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. A high street gold earring puts nickel between the brass and the gold, and the nickel is what makes the ear react. These have the gold plated directly onto 316L stainless steel, with no nickel plated layer in between.
What comes in the box?
A pair, in a black velvet pouch. Where a gift box is offered, you'll see it as an option on the product page.
