Gothic Stud Earrings
Gothic stud earrings for the people who wear earrings to bed. A 6mm heart, a 10mm skull, small enough to sleep on and stay in for weeks, in silver or 18k gold plated 316L stainless steel, sold as pairs.
Steel matters more on a stud than on anything else, because the post sits inside the ear all day and plated alloy is what makes it itch and weep. 316L stainless steel is hypoallergenic for most wearers. Posts are 2.5mm to 3mm, standard for a pierced ear, with butterfly backs. If a stud's too quiet, the hoops are in their own collection, and some of those carry the same motifs on a ring.
Which stud should I get?
A cobweb or a crescent moon if you want a symbol; a black heart if you want it small and dark; a ruby red cubic zirconia if you want a stone. Studs read small, so pick by shape rather than detail, the way you would pick a pendant, and at 10mm to 15mm the shape is what people see.
What size are they?
The charm size on each product page is the width of the stud. 6mm to 10mm is small and suits the upper ear, where a hoop will not sit. 15mm to 17mm is a stud that shows on the lobe. The stone studs are 6mm, 8mm and 9mm, in round, princess or heart cut, and the stones are 5A cubic zirconia.
Why does the post matter?
Because it sits inside the skin all day. High street studs have a nickel plated post, and the nickel is what makes an ear itch by lunchtime. These posts are 316L stainless steel, hypoallergenic for most wearers, with nothing plated on the silver pairs.
Will they tarnish or turn my ears green?
No. Post, butterfly back and charm are all stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated over it. The cubic zirconia is set in steel, not in a plated claw.
Can I wear them in the shower?
Yes. Dry the post when you take them out.
Are they hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes, for the reason above.
How should I care for them?
Studs live in the ear, so the care is a dry cloth on the post when they come out and a touch of surgical spirit occasionally. Store a pair as a pair, in the pouch, and the charms stay unscratched.
What comes in the box?
A pair, in a black velvet pouch. Where a gift box is offered, you'll see it as an option on the product page.
