Belcher Chain Chokers
A belcher choker is the round link with a flat inner edge, so it sits against the skin rather than rolling on it. In America it's called rolo. Either way it's the chain that looks simple until you notice how neatly it lies, which is exactly what you want at the throat, where a chain is seen up close and moves with you.
Ours run from a fine 2mm up to 12mm, where each link is a solid ring you can feel. All of them are 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated, so they don't tarnish, don't turn your neck green, and can be worn every day, in the shower and to bed. Belcher takes a pendant well because the links are round and open, so if you've got a charm you want at the throat, this is the choker to hang it from.
They come in Small, Medium and Large by neck measurement, with the 4 inch extender fitted to the chain, so the size you choose has room built in. Take a tape to your neck where it'll sit and pick the size that covers the measurement. If you're between sizes, go down: the extender is already fitted, so the room is there when you want it. A 3mm or 4mm is the everyday one; from 8mm up it's a piece on its own. We do the same chain as a necklace and a bracelet in matching widths.
Which width should I get?
2mm is a fine Belcher choker that carries a small charm and layers with a longer chain. 4mm is the everyday one, visible on its own and the width most of our padlock and initial charms are sized to clip onto. 6mm and 7mm read as a chain. 10mm and 12mm are heavy round links, worn alone with nothing else at the neck.
What size do I need?
Measure your neck where the choker will sit, just above the collarbone. Small fits 11 to 15 inches (28 to 38cm), Medium 13 to 17 inches (33 to 43cm), Large 15 to 19 inches (38 to 48cm). The 4 inch extender is included with each, so someone at 14 inches can take Small and wear it let out or Medium and wear it short.
Can I clip a charm to it?
Yes, and that is the reason to choose a Belcher. Every link is round and open, so a jump ring passes through and a padlock, a letter or a heart clips straight onto the chain, anywhere along it, without a bail. On the 4mm and wider the charm stays centred and lies flat.
Will it tarnish or turn my neck green?
No. Silver Belcher chokers are solid 316L stainless steel; the gold 2mm and 4mm are 18k plate over that steel rather than brass. There is nothing to oxidise and no copper to mark the skin.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. Round open links hold no water; towel it and it is done.
Is it hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. 316L stainless steel.
What comes in the box?
A black velvet pouch. Where a gift box is offered, you'll see it as an option on the product page.
