Box Chain

Box chain holds a pendant still. Square in section, each link a small cube, so it hangs straight, never kinks, and whatever you hang from it stays facing the front. If a pendant's ever spun round to the wrong side by lunchtime, the chain was the problem and a box is the answer.

This collection is every box we do: chokers sized to the neck with the extender fitted, necklaces from 35cm to 90cm, bracelets in 2cm steps, from a 2mm that vanishes under a pendant to a 6mm that's a piece on its own. All 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated, so the edges of those little squares stay crisp instead of wearing dull. A 2mm or 3mm box is the one we'd put a pendant on every time. The widths line up across the three.

Necklace, choker or bracelet?

The necklace at 45cm or 50cm is the pendant chain, the one with the most sparkle under a small pendant. The choker at the throat is a bright line on its own or carries a small pendant. The bracelet sits beside a watch at 2mm and stands alone at 6mm. Two of the three in one width read as a set.

Which width?

2mm under a pendant or in a layer. 4mm every day, alone or with a pendant up to 30mm. 6mm worn for itself, square-edged if you want it sharp.

Round or square box?

Round box links have softened corners; square box links keep them. At 2mm and 4mm the difference is hard to see. At 6mm the square chain is noticeably harder and throws more light, and it is the one for anyone who likes box chain for its geometry.

What size do I need?

Necklaces: 35 to 90cm; 45cm at the collarbone, 50cm for a pendant. Chokers: Small for 11 to 15 inch necks, Medium 13 to 17, Large 15 to 19, extender included. Bracelets: 16 to 22cm, a snug wrist plus 1.5cm.

Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?

No. Solid 316L stainless steel on the silver, 18k gold over it on the gold. A plated box chain wears through at the corners of the links first; there is no plate on the silver to wear through.
