How sharp are the spikes?

Pointed, not sharp. The spikes on the steel pieces are cast as cones with a rounded tip, and the cone studs on the collars are the same. They will snag a jumper and they will not cut skin. If you sleep in a spiked choker, the tips press rather than pierce. That said, a 12mm spiked chainmail choker is not a piece to wear against a bare neck under a tight collar; give it room.

Which spiked piece should I start with?

The spiked hoop earrings. A 15mm or 20mm hoop with a 12mm spike is the smallest dose of the look and goes with everything. Next is a spiked paperclip choker, which reads punk at the throat without the weight. The spiked chainmail choker and bracelet are the full version and are worn on their own. The faux leather collars with cone studs are the punk classic and are the loudest thing on the page.

What size do I need?

Steel chokers are Small (11 to 15 inch necks), Medium (13 to 17) and Large (15 to 19) with a 4 inch extender included. Spiked bracelets come in 16, 18, 20 and 22cm with an optional 4cm extender; a snug wrist measurement plus 1.5cm is the length to buy. The faux leather collars come in two buckle sizes, Small to Medium covering 11.5 to 15 inch necks and Medium to Large covering 14 to 18.5. Hoop earrings list their diameter on the product page.

Will the spikes tarnish or the studs fall out?

The steel spikes are cast as part of the chain or riveted into it, in 316L stainless steel, so they do not tarnish and do not come loose. The cone studs on the faux leather collars are alloy rivets pressed through the band; they are the standard punk collar construction and hold up to daily wear, but they are plated rather than solid stainless, so keep the collars dry.

Can I wear it in the shower?

The stainless steel spiked chokers, bracelets and earrings, yes; they are water resistant. The faux leather spike collars, no. Faux leather marks when soaked and the plated studs dull.

Is it hypoallergenic?

The steel pieces, for most wearers, yes. The faux leather collars are fine against skin for most people, but the studs and rings are plated alloy, so if you react to costume jewellery, wear the collar over a shirt.

How should I care for it?

Steel: rinse and dry, and run a cloth between the spikes now and then to clear fluff. Collars: wipe the band with a damp cloth, store flat or hung by the buckle, and keep the studs dry.
