Engraved Jewellery
Engraved jewellery is the collection to start from if you know you want words on something but haven't settled on what. Necklaces mostly, some bracelets, and day collars for the people who want the meaning written down.
They're all made to order and engraved here in the UK, so allow two to three working days before they ship. They can't be returned once they've got your words on them, so read it back before you pay. Our steel is 316L stainless, silver or 18k gold plated, which is why the engraving stays sharp: on plated alloy the letters soften and the metal goes off in a year. On steel the words outlast the reason you wrote them.
Most pieces take up to three lines. The mini heart takes one line and five characters. The exact limit shows next to the box when you type, and it varies with the size of the pendant, from a small disc that takes a date to a heart that takes a sentence. Day collars are sized in one inch steps from 11 to 19 inches; necklaces run from 35cm to 90cm and bracelets are sold in 2cm steps, so measure before you choose. If it's a gift, the gift box is worth the extra, because nobody engraves something they're planning to throw in a drawer.
What can I have engraved?
Short text reads best. A name, initials, a date, a set of coordinates, two or three words. The bar takes one line along its length. The 30mm hearts take a name over a date. The 20mm hearts, discs and tags take initials or a short name. The 10mm hearts take five characters. We cut exactly what arrives, so read it back before you confirm.
Necklace or bracelet?
Necklace if the words are private; a pendant sits under a shirt. Bracelet if they are meant to be read. The chunky 10mm Cuban versions of each are for someone who already wears heavy chains.
Silver or gold?
Silver engraves darker, so the letters read more clearly. Gold engraves as a fine silver line through the plate, softer but still legible. Match what they already wear; silver if you cannot tell.
Will the engraving wear off?
No. The letters are cut into the steel itself. There is no plate to wear away and no softer metal beneath to discolour the cut.
Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
No. Nothing in 316L stainless steel reacts with air or sweat, and there is no copper in it. The gold pieces are plated over that steel rather than brass.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. Soap can sit in the letters, so hold the engraving under the tap every so often and dry it.
How long does it take?
Two to three working days to engrave, then dispatch. Order a week ahead of a birthday, an anniversary or Valentine's.
What comes in the box?
A black velvet pouch. Day collars come gift boxed as standard. On everything else, where a gift box is offered, you'll see it as an option on the product page, and most engraved pieces leave in one.
