Foxtail Bracelets

A foxtail bracelet looks like a plait of steel. Dozens of small links folded over each other into a rounded rope that has no front or back, so it catches light wherever your wrist turns. It's the one people mistake for something braided until they pick it up and feel the weight.

Ours run from a fine 2mm, which reads as a single silver line, up to 8mm, which has real presence on a wrist without being a cuff. Every one is 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated, so it doesn't tarnish, doesn't stretch, and stands up to the knocks a bracelet takes over a day. Foxtail is dense for its width, so a 4mm feels heavier than a 4mm cable and sits more like a cord than a chain.

They're sold by wrist length, in 2cm steps. Measure snug below the wrist bone, then add a centimetre or two for slack. The 4cm extender is fitted, not loose, if you choose it. Foxtail wears well on its own and doesn't tangle with a second chain, which makes it the easiest one of ours to stack. We've got the same chain as a necklace and a choker in matching widths.

Which width should I get?

2mm is a fine woven line that stacks and disappears beside a watch. 3mm is a little more visible and is the everyday foxtail bracelet. 5mm is worn on its own and has enough weight to sit still. 8mm is the heavy one; the weave gives it more mass than the width suggests, and it is worn alone with the sleeve rolled.

What size do I need?

Foxtail is round in section, so it sits higher off the wrist than a flat chain and needs an extra half centimetre. Take a snug wrist measurement below the bone and add 2cm, then buy the nearest of 16, 18, 20 or 22cm. The optional 4cm extender gives you a second fit if the first is tight.

Foxtail or wheat?

Same family. Wheat chain has a slightly more visible V pattern in the weave; foxtail is a smoother twist. In practice they wear the same and we list them together. Both are round in section, which is the thing that makes them feel different on the wrist from a flat Cuban.

Will it tarnish or turn my wrist green?

No. A woven chain has a lot of surface, and if it could tarnish it would show fast; 316L stainless steel does not oxidise. Solid steel, no plate, no copper, no mark.

Can I wear it in the shower?

Yes. It stays on in the shower and the sea. Salt lodges in the braid, so rinse it under the tap afterwards and dry it.

Is it hypoallergenic?

For most wearers, yes. The inside of the wrist is thin skin, and 316L stainless steel is the material for it.

How do I stack a foxtail bracelet?

A 2mm foxtail beside a 2mm Cuban and a 3mm box chain, all silver, gives three textures at the same weight. The 5mm foxtail beside a steel watch on the same wrist is the other common pairing. Keep the 8mm on its own.

Silver only?

Yes, the foxtail bracelets on this page are silver. If you want the weave in gold, the foxtail necklaces come in both metals from 2mm to 8mm, and the bracelet and necklace stack as a pair.

Does it kink?

No. The braid has no flat face to fold along, so it moves any way the wrist does and comes back straight. If a flat bracelet you own keeps turning over, a foxtail is the fix.

What comes in the box?

A black velvet pouch. Where a gift box is offered, you'll see it as an option on the product page.
