Engraved Necklaces
The thing about an engraved necklace is that the words matter more than the pendant, so we keep the pendants simple and give you room to write. A name, a date, coordinates, the one line you'd want them to read on a bad day. Most take up to three lines. The mini heart takes one line and five characters, which is enough for initials or a year. The limit for each piece sits beside the box when you type, so you'll know before you order whether it fits.
They're made to order, engraved here in the UK, and they take two to three working days before they ship. Because they've got your words on them they can't be returned, so read it back twice and check the spelling of the name. Our steel is 316L stainless, silver or 18k gold plated, which means the engraving stays crisp and the pendant stays the colour you chose. Plated alloy would wear the letters off in a year.
Pendants run from a small disc up to a 30mm heart, and a couple carry a small stone. Each comes on its own chain, sold by length in centimetres from 35cm to 90cm, with the extender fitted if you choose it. Most of these are bought as gifts, and most of the rest are bought as a promise to yourself. If you'd rather the words were on the wrist, our engraved bracelets are the smaller collection next door.
What can I have engraved?
Short text reads best. A name, a date, initials, a two-word phrase, a set of coordinates. The bar pendant takes a single line of text along its length. The 30mm hearts take a name and a date, one above the other. The 20mm hearts and discs take initials or a short name. The 10mm hearts take up to five characters. Each product page lists the character limit and the number of lines for that pendant. We cut what you type, so read it back before you confirm.
Which pendant should I get?
A bar sits horizontally at the collarbone and suits a name or a date. A heart is the gift shape and takes a name, a date or both. A disc or tag hangs from a plain chain and takes initials. The chunky engraved heart on 10mm Cuban is the one for someone who already wears heavy chains. Silver engraves darker, so the letters read more clearly; gold engraves softer.
What length do I need?
Engraved necklaces are sold at 35 to 90cm. 45cm sits the pendant just below the collarbone and is the length most people choose for a bar or a small heart. 50cm sits it on the upper chest and suits the 30mm hearts. The optional 4 inch extender adds up to 10cm, worth having on a gift when you are guessing.
Will the engraving wear off?
No. It is cut into the steel, not into a plate, so there is nothing to wear through. On the gold pendants the engraving goes through the gold plate into the steel beneath and shows as a fine silver line, which reads clearly against the gold.
Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
No. 316L stainless steel does not oxidise and contains no copper. An engraved pendant sits on the chest all day and is handled more than most, and steel takes that.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. Pendant and chain are water resistant. Rinse the engraving under the tap now and then so product does not sit in the letters.
How long does it take?
Two to three working days to cut, then dispatch. Order a week ahead of a birthday or anniversary to be safe.
Can I engrave both sides?
On the hearts and discs, yes; the back takes a date or initials while the front takes the name. The bar is engraved on one face. Add the second line in the text box on the product page and say which side it goes on.
What comes in the box?
A black velvet pouch. Day collars come gift boxed as standard. On everything else, where a gift box is offered, you'll see it as an option on the product page, and most engraved necklaces leave in one.
