Birthstone Jewellery
Birthstone jewellery is the gift that works when you're guessing at someone's taste. You know the month. That's usually all you know, and it's enough.
Ours use a 5A cubic zirconia in the month's colour, which is the top grade, cut and polished like a proper lab stone, and the difference between a birthstone that sparkles and one that looks like coloured glass. It's set in 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated, so the setting stays the colour it started and the stone stays in. Pick the month, then round or pear: round is the safe choice, pear is the one that gets noticed. Some pieces take an engraved date or name beside the stone, which adds two to three working days. Necklaces run from 35cm to 90cm; the collarbone is a popular spot for a birthstone, but measure where you'd like it to hang. Where a gift box is offered, add it on the product page; it's the first thing they'll see.
Are the stones real birthstones?
No. They are cubic zirconia at 5A grade, which is the top of the scale for clarity and cut, coloured to match each month's traditional stone. Setting a mined stone in a steel chain would multiply the price and make the stone worth more than the piece it hangs from; the CZ keeps the two in proportion. We put this on every product page so nobody buys a garnet and gets a CZ by surprise.
Which month is which colour?
The list runs January garnet, February amethyst, March aquamarine, April clear, May emerald, June pink, July ruby, August peridot, September sapphire, October opal pink, November citrine, December blue topaz. The black onyx-style stone sits outside the calendar for anyone who wants it.
Round or pear?
Round at 9mm sits flat on the chain and is the one to give when you are unsure. Pear at 12mm is a teardrop that moves and shows more of the colour. Same bezel, same chain, same price.
Which chain does it come on?
A 2mm cable chain with a lobster clasp and an optional 4 inch extender. The chain is fine so the stone is the focus; a birthstone beside a 4mm initial pendant on a second chain is the usual pairing.
Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
No. Chain and bezel are 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated over it. No oxidising, no copper, and the setting stays as bright as the stone.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. Cubic zirconia does not cloud in water and the steel is water resistant. Dry the stone so it does not spot.
What comes in the box?
A black velvet pouch. Where a gift box is offered, you'll see it as an option on the product page.
