Cuban Link Bracelets
A Cuban link bracelet is the wrist version of the chain everybody pictures when they hear the word. Flat interlocking links, lying close to the skin, catching light along the whole length every time you move your hand, which on a wrist is constantly.
Ours run from a 2mm line up to 12mm, which is a piece of metal you'll feel, in 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated, so it survives the knocks a wrist takes and stays the colour you bought. Sold in 2cm steps: measure snug just below the wrist bone and add a centimetre or two for how you like it to hang, and if you'd like the 4cm extender we fit it. A 6mm is the most popular width. If you want it to be the only thing you're wearing, go 8mm or above. We do the same chain as a choker and a necklace in matching widths, so a set is picking the same number three times.
Which width should I get?
2mm and 3mm are fine Cuban bracelets that sit beside a watch or in a stack of three. 4mm and 5mm are everyday widths that show on their own. 7mm is the standard Cuban bracelet, flat and obvious without being heavy. 10mm and 12mm are chunky, worn alone on a bare wrist, and feel their weight; they are the ones for a broad wrist or a big watch on the other arm. Between two widths, thinner for a stack, thicker for a single bracelet.
What size do I need?
Measure your wrist just below the wrist bone with a tape, snug but not tight, then add 1.5cm for a comfortable fit or 2.5cm for a loose one. Bracelets come in 16, 18, 20 and 22cm. A 15cm wrist takes the 16cm for a close fit or the 18cm loose. A 17cm wrist takes the 18cm or 20cm. The wider Cubans, 10mm and 12mm, take up more room round the wrist, so add another half centimetre for those. The optional 4cm extender lets one bracelet fit two ways.
Silver or gold?
Same steel underneath. Silver Cuban on the wrist reads cleaner and goes with a steel watch. Gold is 18k plated over the steel and matches a gold watch or gold rings. The flat link shows gold well because the whole face of the chain catches light.
Will it tarnish or turn my wrist green?
No. Wrists sweat more than necks and rub on desks and cuffs all day, which is where a plated bracelet fails first. These are solid 316L stainless steel on the silver, and 18k gold plated over that steel on the gold, so there is no brass to tarnish and no copper to mark the skin.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. Stainless steel Cuban bracelets are water resistant and stay on through showers, the gym and washing up. Rinse after the sea and dry.
Is it hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. A bracelet sits on the inside of the wrist where the skin is thin, so the grade of steel matters, and 316L is the one we use.
Which fastening do they use?
A lobster clasp sized to the chain, with the optional 4cm extender hooked to it. The 10mm and 12mm bracelets use an oversized clasp on a thick jump ring, which is also easier to fasten with one hand.
