Belcher Chain

Belcher chain is the round link with a flat inner edge, so it sits against the skin instead of rolling on it. In America it's rolo; same chain. It looks plain until you notice how neatly it lies, and how a pendant hung from it stays facing forward.

This collection is every belcher we do: chokers sized to the neck with the extender fitted, necklaces from 35cm to 90cm, bracelets in 2cm steps, from a 2mm you'd barely notice to 12mm rings you can feel. The steel is 316L throughout, in silver or 18k gold plated. The links are round and open, which makes belcher the easiest chain to hang a charm from, and a lot of people buy one because they've already got the charm. The widths line up across the three.

What is a Belcher chain?

A chain of round links, all the same size, each thicker and more open than a cable link. Rolo is the same thing under another name. The open link is the point: it takes a jump ring directly, so charms clip on anywhere, and it has no flat face, so the chain never turns against the skin.

Which width should I get?

2mm for a small charm or a layer. 4mm as the everyday Belcher and the width our charms are built for. 6mm and 7mm worn as a chain on their own. 10mm and 12mm heavy and worn alone.

What size do I need?

Necklaces: 35 to 90cm; 45cm at the collarbone, 50cm for a charm or pendant. Chokers: Small for 11 to 15 inch necks, Medium 13 to 17, Large 15 to 19, extender included. Bracelets: 16 to 22cm, a snug wrist plus 1.5cm.

How do I put a charm on it?

Open a jump ring, pass it through the link you want, close it. On the 4mm and wider the charm lies flat and stays where you put it. Two or three charms spaced along a Belcher is a common build.
