Paperclip chain, the wide kind. Long, flat, open links from 8mm up to 18mm, where each one is the length of your thumbnail and the chain is the whole outfit. Not the fine paperclip you'll see everywhere; ours is the one people stop you to ask about.
This collection is every paperclip we do: chokers sized to the neck with the extender fitted, necklaces from 35cm to 90cm, bracelets in 2cm steps. All 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated, which matters on an open link because the inside of the loop is where plating goes dull and you can't polish it. A wide paperclip sits best close, at the collarbone or snug on the wrist, where the links lie flat and don't twist. It's a small collection, because chain this size is slow to come by, and we'd rather do a few properly.
Why choose paperclip?
Two reasons. It layers without knotting, because the links lie flat against each other rather than turning. And it sits flatter under a shirt collar or a sleeve than any other link we cut, so it is the chain for people who wear jewellery under clothes.
Which link size?
The number is the length of one link. 8mm reads as a fine chain with a rhythm to it and stacks. 15mm is the paperclip most people picture, worn alone or as the top of a stack. 18mm is long and open and is worn as the piece.
What size do I need?
Necklaces: 35 to 90cm, with 45cm landing the links on the collarbone where they show. Chokers: Small for 11 to 15 inch necks, Medium 13 to 17, Large 15 to 19, extender included. Bracelets: 16 to 22cm, a snug wrist plus 1.5cm; long links fasten only at the clasp, so if you are between sizes take the larger and add the 4cm extender.
Can I hang a pendant from it?
Thread it through a link instead. A bail sits awkwardly on a long flat link, but a small padlock or initial passed through the middle of one link sits flat and stays centred.
Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
No. The silver is solid 316L stainless steel; the gold 15mm is 18k plate over it. The broad flat face of a paperclip link is where plating wears through first, and the silver has none.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. An open flat link holds no water.
Is it hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. 316L stainless steel.
