O Ring Collars
An O ring collar is the one everybody recognises. A band round the neck, a ring at the front, and what you hang from it, or don't, is your business.
These are the faux leather ones. A soft band with a buckle or studs at the back, an O ring from 30mm up to 60mm, in black and a dozen colours that aren't. Faux leather sits softer against the skin than chain, carries a wider ring than a chain can, and comes in colour, which steel doesn't. The bands are vegan. A buckle collar has a few holes of room in it, so measure where you want the ring to sit and pick the size that covers you. If you want the same thing in steel, made to the inch and worn for years, our day collars are the other half of this.
Which O ring size should I get?
40mm reads as a design detail and suits a slimmer neck; it is the ring on the plainer collars. 50mm is the standard and is the ring on most of this page; it is large enough to clip to and small enough to sit under a shirt collar. 60mm is the full size and is worn to be seen; it takes a padlock or a leash clip without the band twisting. A few collars carry a 60mm ring with a 40mm beside it, and one carries a 30mm.
What size collar do I need?
Two sizes. Small to Medium covers 11.5 to 15 inch necks (29 to 38cm); Medium to Large covers 14 to 18.5 (35.5 to 47cm). Take a tape round your neck at the point the ring will sit and pick the size that puts your number in the middle of its range. A 14.5 inch neck is in both, so decide by how you want the ring to sit: high and close on the smaller band, lower with slack on the larger. The buckle then gives a hole or two of play either way.
Buckle, stud or padlock?
A buckle through the rear D ring is standard on this page and gives the most adjustment. Press stud versions are quicker on and off and lie flatter under a shirt. The padlock collars swap the buckle for a small working lock; whoever holds the key decides when it comes off.
Can I wear it in the shower?
No. Wet PU stiffens and the chrome on the ring is a plate, not solid metal, so a soaking dulls it. Unbuckle it before water. A damp cloth on the band is the most cleaning it wants.
Is it hypoallergenic?
The band, for most people, yes. The ring and buckle are chrome plated alloy, and chrome plate is what costume jewellery is made from, so if that gives you a reaction, keep the collar over a shirt collar rather than on bare skin.
How should I care for it?
Hang it by the buckle or keep it flat; a crease across the band next to the ring does not come out. Perfume and hairspray dull the chrome, so they go on first. The glitter bands shed for a wear or two and then settle.
Which O ring collar for a first one?
Plain black band, 50mm ring, buckle fastening. It is the collar the rest of the page is a variation on, it goes under a shirt or over a t-shirt, and it takes a padlock later if you want one.
What comes in the box?
An organza bag, and the key on the padlock collars. Where a gift box is offered, you'll see it as an option on the product page.
