Birthstone Necklaces
A birthstone necklace is a gift you can't get wrong, as long as you know the month. Ours put a 5A cubic zirconia in the month's colour into a stainless steel setting, on a fine 2mm chain in silver or 18k gold plated, and let the stone do the talking.
5A is the top grade of cubic zirconia, cut and polished to the standard of a good lab stone, and it's the difference between a birthstone that sparkles and one that looks like coloured glass. It's set in 316L stainless steel rather than plated alloy, so the setting stays the colour it started and the stone stays put. Choose the month on the product, and pick between a round cut and a pear drop. You'll also choose the chain style, and we've kept the chain fine so the stone is what people see.
Necklaces are sold by length in centimetres, from 35cm to 90cm, with the extender fitted if you choose it. 45cm is a popular length, sitting around the collarbone, but it depends on where you'd like the stone to hang, so measure before you choose. If you want the birthstone with the month's name or a date beside it, some of these can be engraved, which adds two to three working days. The gift box is worth adding; it's the first thing they'll see.
Which stone is which month?
January garnet red, February amethyst purple, March aquamarine pale blue, April clear, May emerald green, June light pink, July ruby red, August peridot green, September sapphire blue, October opal pink, November citrine yellow, December blue topaz. Each is a 5A cubic zirconia cut in that colour. The black onyx-style stone is the thirteenth option for anyone who wants black.
Round or pear?
The round is 9mm across and sits flat at the collarbone; it is the everyday version and the safer gift. The pear is 12mm, teardrop shaped, and hangs with a little movement; it reads more elegant and shows more colour. Both are bezel-set in the same steel.
Are the stones real?
No. They are 5A cubic zirconia, the highest grade, cut in the traditional colour for the month. A mined stone on a steel chain would cost many times the price and would not match the chain. We put it on the page so you know what you are buying.
Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
No. The chain and the bezel are 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated over it. Nothing oxidises, nothing has copper in it, and the setting round the stone stays as bright as the stone.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. Water resistant, stone included; cubic zirconia does not cloud in water. Dry it after so no water spots sit on the stone.
Is it hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. 316L stainless steel and a stone that touches nothing but the setting.
What comes in the box?
A black velvet pouch. Where a gift box is offered, you'll see it as an option on the product page.
