Jewellery Gifts for Mum

Most mums have a drawer of jewellery they were given and don't wear. The pieces that make it out of the drawer are the ones that mean something and don't need looking after.

That's what this collection is built round. Engraved pendants with a name, a date or the kids' initials. Birthstone necklaces, with the stone for her month or for one that matters to her. Initials in our own blackletter alphabet, dainty chains, and a few pieces with more edge for the mum who'd rather have that. It's all 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated, so it won't tarnish, won't turn her skin green, and she can keep it on in the shower.

Necklaces are sold by length, from 35cm to 90cm; if you're not sure, measure a chain she already wears. Engraved pieces are made to order and take two to three working days, and they can't be returned once they carry your words, so read it back twice. If it's from the kids and the product offers a gift box, add it. It'll get kept.

What do mums actually keep wearing?

The pieces with a name or a date on them, and the ones that don't need looking after. An engraved pendant with the kids' names, a birthstone for a month that matters to her, or her initial on a fine chain. Steel means she never has to take it off to wash up.

Can I put more than one name on it?

Most engraved pendants take up to three lines, and the character limit sits next to the box when you type, so you'll see whether it fits before you order.

What if I don't know their size?

Find a necklace they already wear and measure it end to end, clasp included. That's the length to buy. Our necklaces are sold in centimetres from 35cm to 90cm, and you can add the optional 4 inch extender on the product if you'd like some room either way. We can't tell you what size someone is, but the chain on their neck can.

Silver or gold?

Look at what they already wear, on their hands and in their ears, and match it. Both are 316L stainless steel underneath. The gold is an 18k plate over that steel, which stays warm for years but eventually wears where it rubs hardest. The silver is steel all the way through, so there's nothing to wear off.

How long does engraving take?

Engraved pieces are made to order here in the UK and take two to three working days before they ship, so give yourself a week before the date. Because they carry your words they can't be returned, so read it back twice and check the spelling of the name.

Does it come gift boxed?

Day collars come gift boxed as standard. On other pieces, where a gift box is offered you'll see it as an option on the product; add it there before it goes in your basket. Steel pieces without a box come in a black velvet pouch.
