Velvet Chokers
Our handmade velvet chokers are available in a 18 captivating colours and 3 widths, 10mm (standard thin choker), 16mm (medium) and 22mm (thick and chunky) our more popular velvet choker colors include Black, Red, Green, Baby pink, Hot Pink/Fuchsia, Baby Blue, Royal Blue, Violet and Purple.
Which width should I get?
10mm is the thin velvet choker, the one from every nineties photo. It sits as a line at the throat, works with any neckline and is the easiest to wear daily. 16mm shows more colour and sits well with a lower neckline or a plain top. 22mm is a full band of velvet and is worn on its own as the thing at the neck; it suits hair up and a bare collarbone. If you are buying one, buy the 10mm in black. If you are buying three, one of each.
What size do I need?
Measure your neck where the band will sit. Small fits 11 to 15 inches (28 to 38cm), Medium 13 to 17 inches (33 to 43cm), Large 15 to 19 inches (38 to 48cm). Each choker has a 4 inch stainless steel adjuster chain, so it fastens anywhere in that range. Velvet does not stretch, so if you are between sizes take the larger one and use the adjuster.
Which colour should I get?
Black goes with everything and is the colour most people buy first. Red, bordeaux and violet read against black clothes. Baby pink, baby blue and white soften an outfit. Emerald, bottle green, moss, royal blue and horizon blue are the ones to buy when the choker is meant to be the colour in the outfit. Brown, grey and citron are the ones nobody else has.
Can I wear it in the shower?
No. Velvet marks when it gets wet and the pile flattens. Take it off for showers and swimming. Sweat is fine; let it dry and the pile comes back.
Will the clasp tarnish?
No. The clasp and adjuster chain are stainless steel, not plated, so the hardware stays bright and does not mark your neck.
Is it hypoallergenic?
The velvet band is fine against skin for almost everyone, and the stainless steel clasp is hypoallergenic for most wearers. If you react to the metal clasps on cheap chokers, that is usually nickel plating, which this does not have.
How should I care for it?
Lay it flat or hang it; a folded velvet band creases at the fold. If the velvet creases, hold it in steam from a kettle for a few seconds and smooth it with your fingers. Spot clean with a damp cloth; do not soak it.
What comes in the box?
Velvet chokers come in an organza bag. Where a gift box is offered, you can add it on the product page.
