Gold Gothic Jewellery
Gold gothic jewellery, the whole range in gold, for the people who don't wear silver and are tired of scrolling past it.
Gold here means 18k gold plate over 316L stainless steel, and it's worth being straight about what that is. The steel underneath is the same as our silver range, so it doesn't turn skin green and stands up to daily wear. The plate on top is a surface, and it eventually wears where a piece rubs most, the clasp and the back of the neck, over years rather than weeks. If you want jewellery you never think about, silver stainless is the harder-wearing choice; if you want gold, this is the honest version of it, and it looks warmer against black than silver ever will. Chokers, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and day collars each have their own collection; pendants and plain chains are here too. Everything we finish carries a lifetime guarantee.
Will the gold wear off?
Not with normal wear, and the reason is what is under it. Cheap gold jewellery is gold over brass, and brass corrodes; the corrosion lifts the plate at the edges and the clasp, which is the brassy look you get after a month. Our gold is 18k plate over 316L stainless steel, and steel does not corrode, so the plate has nothing lifting it. What does dull a plate over years is chemicals: perfume sprayed on the neck, hairspray, chlorine. Put the jewellery on after those, not before. Every gold piece we make carries our lifetime guarantee.
Will it turn my skin green?
No. That green ring is copper, and copper is in brass, not in 316L steel.
How do I wear gold with black?
One piece at a time to start. A gold choker with nothing else at the neck, or a gold pendant on a gold chain with silver rings on your hands. Gold against black reads as the one colour in the outfit, so it does not need company. If you go all gold, keep the widths consistent, fine with fine, chunky with chunky.
Can I mix gold and silver?
Yes, if one leads. Gold at the neck and silver on the hands works. Gold and silver chains stacked at the neck only work when they are clearly different widths, a fine gold chain above a chunky silver one. Two chains of the same width in different metals read as a mistake.
What size do I need?
Gold chokers are Small (11 to 15 inch necks), Medium (13 to 17) and Large (15 to 19) with a 4 inch extender on the chain chokers. Gold necklaces are sold from 35cm to 90cm; 45cm is the collarbone. Gold bracelets are 16, 18, 20 or 22cm; wrist measurement plus 1.5cm. Gold day collars are sold in exact inch sizes.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. Showers and swimming are fine; the plate is bonded to steel, not sitting on brass, so water does not get under it. A long soak in a chlorinated pool is the one thing to avoid, and a rinse in fresh water afterwards fixes most of that.
Is it hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. A cheap gold chain has a layer of nickel between the brass and the gold, and that nickel is what reacts. Ours has gold straight over 316L stainless steel, with no nickel plated layer.
What comes in the box?
A black velvet pouch on chains, pendants, bracelets and earrings. The gold day collars come with their gift box. On anything else, where a gift box is offered, you can add it on the product page.
