Figaro Chain Chokers
A Figaro choker is a choker with something to look at. Three short links, one long, over and over, so the pattern reads even from across a room and you don't need a pendant to make it worth wearing. If you want a choker that's a piece rather than a line, this is it.
Ours start at 3mm, which is light enough to forget, and go to 12mm, where the long links catch light and the choker is the outfit. Sized Small, Medium and Large by neck measurement, with the 4 inch extender fitted to the chain, so the size you pick has room built in; wrap a tape round your neck where you want it to sit. The clasp lives on the back of the neck, which is where plating gives up first, so these are 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated, and that doesn't happen. Which width sits best at the throat?
3mm and 4mm, for most people. At the throat the chain is close to the face, and a fine Figaro reads as pattern rather than as a chain; the 3mm gold version worn tight is one of the pieces we cut most. 5mm is visible on its own. 7mm is a chunky Figaro choker that still goes under a shirt collar. 10mm and 12mm are heavy, flat, and are worn with nothing else near them.
What size do I need?
Three sizes, each with a 4 inch extender included. Small covers 11 to 15 inch necks (28 to 38cm), Medium 13 to 17 (33 to 43cm), Large 15 to 19 (38 to 48cm). Take a tape round your neck where the choker will sit and pick the size that holds your number in the middle of its range. On the 10mm and 12mm, which are thick as well as wide, go up a size if you are near the top of a range.
How do I wear it?
Snug at the throat over a high neck, with nothing under it. Or with the extender let out and a plain 2mm chain at 45cm below, so the Figaro is the top layer and the pattern shows against bare skin. Keep any pendant on the lower chain; a Figaro is better with nothing hanging from it.
Will it tarnish or turn my neck green?
No. Silver Figaro chokers are solid 316L stainless steel. The gold ones are 18k plate over that steel, not over brass, so the plate is not being lifted from underneath. No oxidising, no copper.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. Shower, swim, sleep; it stays on and stays the same.
Is it hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. 316L stainless steel, lying flat against the neck all day.
