Stainless Steel Necklaces
Discover our Handcrafted Necklace Collection. Introducing our large collection of necklaces designed exclusively for lovers of gothic fashion and adornments.
What length do I need?
Our necklaces come in 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 70, 80 and 90cm. 35 and 40cm sit at the throat. 45cm sits at the collarbone and is the standard length for a first chain. 50cm sits just below the collarbone and is the most common pendant length. 55 and 60cm sit on the chest; on a broad frame, 55cm is the collarbone. 70cm and up hang low and are for layering. If you are unsure, measure a necklace you already wear and match it. The optional 4 inch extender adds up to 10cm to any length.
Which width should I get?
2mm and 3mm chains are for pendants and layering. 4mm to 6mm is the everyday width that shows on its own and still goes under a collar. 8mm to 12mm is a chain worn as the outfit, alone. For a pendant, match the chain to the pendant: a 10mm to 20mm pendant on 2mm or 3mm, a 20mm to 30mm pendant on 3mm or 4mm, anything heavier on 5mm or wider.
Chain or pendant necklace?
A plain chain is the one to buy first. It goes under everything and takes any pendant later. A pendant necklace comes with its chain matched to the pendant's weight, so it hangs straight out of the pouch. Most of ours hang on 2mm to 4mm chain; the chunky pendants sit on 10mm.
Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
No, and this is the main reason we use the material. Sterling silver goes dark because it reacts with air; 316L stainless steel does not react, so it never needs polishing. Brass and plated brass leave a green line because of the copper in them; there is no copper in this steel. The gold necklaces are plated over the same steel, so nothing corrodes under the plate. All of it is backed by our lifetime guarantee.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. Leave it on in the shower, the sea, the pool and the gym; the steel is water resistant and sweat does not mark it. The only necklaces on the site that should stay dry are the few with a chrome plated brass padlock, and those say so on their own pages.
Is it hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. It's 316L stainless steel. If plated chains give you a rash at the back of the neck, a steel chain is worth trying.
Which fastening do they use?
Almost every necklace closes with a lobster clasp sized to its chain, with the optional extender hooked to it. A handful of the chunky pendant necklaces close with a toggle bar through a ring instead, which suits a wide chain and is easier to do up one-handed.
What comes in the box?
Every necklace arrives in a black velvet pouch, and where a gift box is offered, you can add it on the product page.
