Silver here means 316L stainless steel. Not sterling, which tarnishes and wants polishing, and not plate, which wears through. Steel is silver all the way down, so it looks the same in ten years as it does out of the box, and it's the reason you can shower and sleep in it without thinking. If you want a plain chain, the widths run from 2mm to 22mm across cable, Cuban, Figaro, box, belcher, foxtail and the fancy links. If you want something with a motif, the pendants are in here too. Every necklace is sold by length from 35cm to 90cm, which is more range than you'll find most places, so measure where you'd like it to sit rather than guessing from a photo.
What length do I need?
35 and 40cm sit at the throat. 45cm sits at the collarbone and is the standard first length. 50cm sits just below and is where most pendants are worn. 55 and 60cm sit on the chest, suit a broad frame and a chunky chain, and are what most men choose. 70cm and above hang low for layering. The optional 4 inch extender adds up to 10cm.
Silver steel or sterling silver?
Steel, for anything worn every day. Sterling goes dark, scratches and can mark skin, because of the copper in it. 316L stainless steel looks the same colour and does none of those things. The pieces we make ourselves carry our lifetime guarantee for that reason.
Which chain should I start with?
A 4mm cable or Cuban at 45cm. It goes under everything, takes any pendant and layers with a finer chain. Then a pendant. Then a 10mm chain for the days you want the chain and nothing else.
Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
No. No copper, nothing to tarnish, no plate to wear through. A silver steel necklace bought here looks the same in five years.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes. The one exception is the heart padlock necklaces, whose lock is chrome plated brass and should stay dry; their pages say so.
Is it hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. The grade is the one used for body piercing, chosen for how few people react to it.
