Figaro Chain Necklaces
A Figaro necklace is for people who don't want a pendant. Three short links, one long, repeated, so it's got a pattern of its own and it doesn't need anything hanging off it to look finished. Wear it alone under an open shirt and it does the work.
Ours start at 3mm, which is light enough to forget, and go up to 12mm, where the long links catch light and the chain is the outfit. All 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated. Lengths run from 35cm to 90cm, so you can wear it at the collarbone or let it hang, and if you want the option of both, choose the extender and we fit it. The same chain is here as a choker and a bracelet, and people who like Figaro tend to end up with the set.
Which width should I get?
3mm and 4mm show the three-and-one pattern only when you look for it, take a pendant up to 30mm and layer under a wider chain. 5mm is the Figaro to wear alone every day. 7mm is the standard chunky Figaro, flat and obvious. 10mm and 12mm are heavy and are worn as the only thing at the neck, usually at 50cm or longer so the long links sit on the chest rather than the collarbone.
What length do I need?
The nine lengths run 35 to 90cm. For a Figaro worn alone, 45cm lands the pattern on the collarbone where it reads best. For one carrying a pendant, 50cm. The 10mm and 12mm want 55cm or 60cm on a broader frame. Anything from 70cm up is a layering chain that hangs below the others. The optional 4 inch extender adds up to 10cm to whichever you choose.
Why choose Figaro over Cuban?
The pattern. A Cuban is uniform and reads as weight; a Figaro alternates three short links with one long, so the same width looks like more chain and the eye moves along it. A 4mm Figaro shows where a 4mm Cuban disappears. If you want a chain that is noticed without being heavy, this is the link.
Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
No. The silver Figaros are solid 316L stainless steel with nothing plated on them; the gold 4mm is 18k plate over that steel. Neither reacts with air, and neither carries copper, so there is nothing to darken and nothing to mark the neck.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Yes, and to bed, and in the sea. A flat chain holds no water, so a wipe with a towel afterwards is enough.
Is it hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. A Figaro lies flat against the skin for its whole length, so there is more contact than with a round chain, and the grade of steel matters more. This is 316L stainless steel.
