Which day collar is right for me?
Three kinds are on this page. Pendant day collars are chain chokers with a padlock, heart or O ring at the front and a lobster clasp at the back; they are worn as jewellery and come off like jewellery. Micro slip chains are the same idea on a 3mm or 4mm chain with a 14mm ring and a 4 inch adjuster, the most discreet of the range. The 24/7 locking day collars have no clasp at all; a full stainless steel padlock closes the chain and the key stays with whoever holds it. If the collar is a symbol you want to wear openly, buy a pendant or O ring style. If it is meant to stay on, buy the 24/7.
What size do I need?
Most day collars here are sold in exact sizes from 11 to 19 inches. Measure your neck where the collar will sit, snug but not tight, and buy that number for a close fit or one inch up for room. The micro slip chains and a few others come in Small (11 to 15 inches), Medium (13 to 17) and Large (15 to 19) with a 4 inch extender. Where the extender is optional, add it if you want the collar to sit at two heights; it is not needed on the 24/7 locking collars, which are cut to size.
Which chain width should I get?
Day collars run from 2mm to 15mm. 2mm to 4mm is the everyday width and reads as a fine necklace to anyone who does not know. 6mm to 8mm shows the chain and carries a larger ring or padlock. 10mm and 12mm are heavy, flat chains for a collar meant to be seen; the spiked 24/7 collar is 10mm. The O rings on the fine chains are 14mm; on the wide chains they go up to 25mm and 34mm, seamless and solid.
Is the padlock safe to wear all the time?
On the 24/7 locking day collars, yes. The padlock is full 316L stainless steel, 28mm by 15mm, the same grade as the chain, and locks with a hex (Allen) key that we supply. It does not rust, does not tarnish and is fine in the shower and in bed. On the heart padlock day collars the padlock is chrome plated brass, which locks and unlocks the same way but should be kept dry.
Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
No. It is on the skin for days at a time, so it has to be a metal that does nothing to skin, and 316L stainless steel is that metal: no oxidising, no copper, no plate to wear through on the silver, and an 18k gold plate over steel on the gold. Our lifetime guarantee covers all of it.
Can I wear it in the shower?
The stainless steel day collars, including the 24/7 locking collars with the stainless padlock, yes. The heart padlock versions with a chrome plated brass padlock, no; keep the lock dry.
Is it hypoallergenic?
The chain, rings and stainless padlocks, for most wearers, yes. A collar that stays on for weeks needs a metal the skin does not notice, and that is what 316L is for. The chrome plated brass heart padlocks are the exception, and they hang clear of the neck.
What comes in the box?
Day collars include a gift box as standard. The 24/7 locking collars include the hex key. On some padlock styles you can add a second chain for the key, so one person wears the lock and the other wears the key.
