That steel is the reason this collection exists. Most gothic jewellery online is plated alloy that goes green, black or dull inside a few months. Our steel is the same grade as a watch case. It doesn't tarnish, it doesn't react with skin for most wearers, and you can shower and sleep in it. Silver as standard, 18k gold plated if you want it warmer.
If you know what you're after, the menus at the top will get you there faster. If you don't, the pendants are where most people start, the plain chains are where most people end up, and our day collars are their own world entirely. Widths run from 2mm to 22mm, hoops from 12mm to 55mm, and everything with a chain comes sized: chokers by neck measurement with the extender fitted, necklaces from 35cm to 90cm, bracelets in 2cm steps. Where should I start?
A plain chain in your metal, then one pendant with a symbol you mean. A 4mm cable or Cuban chain at 45cm goes under everything and will carry a pendant later. Add a pair of 15mm huggie hoops in the same metal. That is a gothic wardrobe in three pieces, and it will still be bright in ten years. Chokers come next for most people, then a bracelet in the same link as the chain.
Silver or gold?
Silver is the goth default and disappears against black clothing, so the shape of the piece does the work. Gold is the same 316L steel with an 18k plate and reads warmer, older, more Catholic. Neither tarnishes, so the choice is only about look. If you already wear one tone on your hands, match it. If you wear neither, silver.
How do I know what size to buy?
Chokers are Small, Medium or Large; Small fits an 11 to 15 inch neck, Medium 13 to 17, Large 15 to 19, and every chain choker includes a 4 inch extender. Necklaces are sold by length in centimetres, 35 to 90cm; 45cm sits at the collarbone and is the standard first length. Bracelets are 16, 18, 20 or 22cm; measure your wrist snug and add 1.5cm. Faux leather collars are Small to Medium for 11.5 to 15 inch necks, Medium to Large for 14 to 18.5 inches. Earrings have no sizing beyond the hoop diameter on the product page.
Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?
No. Sterling silver tarnishes because it reacts with air. Brass and plated brass turn skin green because of the copper in them. 316L stainless steel does neither; it does not react with air and contains no copper. Every piece we make ourselves is covered by our lifetime guarantee for that reason.
Can I wear it in the shower?
The stainless steel, yes. Chains, chokers, bracelets, pendants and earrings are water resistant and can stay on. Three things should be kept dry: the velvet and faux leather chokers, the faux leather buckle collars, and any piece with a chrome plated brass padlock, which is the slip chains and the heart padlock chokers. Is it hypoallergenic?
316L stainless steel is hypoallergenic for most wearers. If a piece of jewellery has ever given you a rash, nickel plating is the usual cause, and there is no plating on our silver pieces. The gold plate sits over steel, not brass.
How should I care for it?
Rinse in warm water, dry with a soft cloth, keep perfume and hairspray off the gold. Steel does not need polishing, does not need to be stored apart from other jewellery, and does not need to come off for the shower. The velvet, faux leather and brass padlock pieces are the exceptions; keep those dry.
What comes in the box?
Every stainless steel piece arrives in a black velvet pouch. Velvet and faux leather chokers and collars come in an organza bag. Day collars all come gift boxed as standard, and so do the day collar bracelets. On anything else, where a gift box is offered, you'll see it as an option on the product page.
