Chunky Hoop Earrings
A chunky hoop is about the thickness of the wire, not the size of the ring. A thin 40mm hoop is big; a 5mm wire hoop at 20mm is chunky.
These are our heaviest hoops, from 3.5mm to 5mm wire: spiked huggies, skull hoops, twisted metal, and square, star and triangle shapes. They're 316L stainless steel, silver or 18k gold plated, hypoallergenic for most wearers, and heavy enough that you know they're there. Sold as pairs.
Because the wire is thick, most of these sit close to the ear, and the huggie styles snap shut round the lobe. If you'd rather have a plain hoop in a standard wire, the silver and gold hoops go up to 55mm. A chunky hoop is usually the one you build the rest of the ear around.
What makes a hoop chunky?
The wire. Our standard hoops are 3mm wire; everything in this collection is 3.5mm to 5mm, which is noticeably heavier on the ear and reads bolder from a distance, whatever the size of the ring.
Are they heavy to wear?
They're heavier than a plain hoop, but most of these are compact, around 14mm to 22mm across, so the weight sits close to the lobe rather than swinging.
Are they hypoallergenic?
For most wearers, yes. They're 316L stainless steel, the grade used for surgical steel, so they can stay in for weeks without the itch that plated alloy causes. They're sold as pairs.
How do they fasten?
Hinged hoops click shut, huggies snap into place, and studs have butterfly backs. None of them need a tool, and all of them stay put through a night out.
Silver or gold?
Both are 316L stainless steel. The gold is an 18k plate over that steel, which stays warm for years but eventually wears at the post and hinge, where it rubs most. The silver is steel all the way through, so there's nothing to wear off.
